The SHOE Project for Theo's Basecamp
Make a difference, make an impact!
For the months of January and February, bring in a pair of your old running shoes (or new ones if you want!!!) and CBC will donate $10 to Theo's Basecamp.
What is Theo's Basecamp?
Support and fundraising initiative for the Lazaridis Family (an amazing Squamish family) as they help little 2 year old Theo in his fight against Leukemia.
On December 20th, 2011 2-year old Theo Lazaridis – bright-eyed son of Laura and Tasso, and little brother to big sister Eden - was diagnosed with leukemia. A facebook page was created by friends as a way to help support Theo and his family, organize fundraising events, and keep the Lazaridis family in our thoughts. For the next 6 months, the Lazaridis family will be relocated from their home in Squamish to Children’s Hospital in Vancouver to receive Theo’s treatment. This will undoubtedly cause both emotional and financial strain to the family. As a group, let’s do whatever we can to support them as they start the journey to beating Theo’s cancer.
I have personally known Tasso and Laura since moving to the Sea to Sky Corridor over 10 years ago. Back in the early days of Challenge by Choice, Laura was training with the early morning group of ladies. Their story breaks my heart and I want to do something to help them through this time. Please visit the FACEBOOK page "Theo's Basecamp" to learn more.
Why the Shoes and where are they going?
There is a group of young runners here in Squamish who are apart of the Squamish Elementary cross country running club. Coached by their principal Margaret Paxton, I've had a great update on the progress of these runners and I'm thrilled that children are being exposed to the joy of the trails and are so eager to participate at such a young age. Shoes however, are not cheap and there are many children who are in desperate need of a pair of runners just so they can participate. Challenge by Choice wants to support this program in 2012 so here is our first initiative to make a positive impact! Please bring in your old/used or new shoes to CBC. We will have a box ready to collect them. We will instantly take $10 from the till and put it into "Theo's Jar"!
Our Goal at Challenge by Choice?
We hope to raise $500 (that's only 50 pairs of shoes)in the month of January! The sooner the better so that CBC can send our $500 onto the family.
For any non CBC folks, we still welcome your shoes and your contribution to Theo's Jar.
We will cap at 70 pairs of shoes regardless as that may be all that program needs right now. We are only looking for adult sized running shoes!!!
The shoe box will be set up and ready for your items next week! Bring 'em on in! I will keep you posted as to the progress! How fast can we meet that $500?
The Fat Burning Myth
Had to share this one - time to get rid of some old thoughts as we enter into 2012. Once again, Joe Friel is my go-to person for this. Visit his BLOG to learn more on this topic! Remember folks, diet is the other part of the equation! I've recently been reading an awesome book recommended by my mom entitled "Wheat Belly" and it's unbelievable!!! I highly recommend. I will be sharing some info with you in the weeks ahead!
Have you set your 2012 goals yet? I'm doing mine right now!
